Mount Suphan & Ararat trek combined

Mount Süphan is a stratovolcano located in eastern Turkey, immediately north of Lake Van. It is the second highest volcano in Turkey with an elevation of 4058 m and is the second highest summit after Mount Ararat.

Mt Suphan is an easy climb and serves as a great acclimatization fort the harder and higher trek to the summit of Mount Ararat.


Day 1 Van – Suphan Dagi

We meet you at Van airport about 9.00 a.m. Transfer to Mount Süphan. Along the way, dinner in the village Adilcevaz. Camp at 2500 m above sea level and from there the next day we start. Overnight in camp in tent.

Day 2 Suphan Dagi Summit (4058 m) – Aygir lake

Wake up at night 1:00, have breakfast at 2:00 a.m. and our trek to Mount Suphan summit will start with small backpacks. Large backpacks and tents stay in the car, which will be waiting for us at the lake Aygir. About 6 hour later, we will be at Mount Suphan’s summit. We go back the other way, toward the southern slope of the lake Aygir. Out camp on the lake and eat dinner in the cafe. Today’s trek may take 12-15 hours. We spend the night camping in tents.

Day 3 Aygir lake – Dogubayazit

Breakfast in the cafe, and then we’re going to Doğubeyazıt about 3 hours, with a stop at the beautiful waterfalls Muradiye. Arrive and check in at the 3-star hotel in Dogubayazit. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 4 Ararat Base Camp (3200 m)

After breakfast in the hotel about 8.00-9.00 a.m. leave unnecessary things locked in storage room, transfer by minibus to starting point at 2200 m on Mount Ararat. Hike (4-5 hours) to the Base camp. Horses will carry your big backpacks and camp equipment. You carry your own small backpack with lunch packet. In the camp picnic and dinner. Overnight in camp 1 in tent.

Day 5 Ararat Camp 2 (4200 m)

After breakfast trek to camp 2 at 4200 m (3-4 hours). Transfer of equipment by horses. In the camp 2 dinner and go to sleep early.

Day 6 Mount Ararat Summit (5137 m)

Wake up at 1-2 a.m., small breakfast, drink coffee or tea. Depart from camp 2 to the top. Climbing about 5-9 hours for sunrise. Return to the camp 2, short rest, eat, pack equipment for horses. Return to Base camp for night. (This may also be used as a reserve day if altitude sickness or bad weather requires two nights at camp 2.)

Day 7 Dogubayazit, Hammam

After breakfast at Base Camp, pack all equipment for horses and descend to 2200 m, transfer by minibus to the hotel. Short rest. Then visit a traditional Turkish Hammam. Dinner at the city. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 8 Cultural tours

After breakfast in the hotel followed cultural tours of Ishak Pasa Palace, Meteor Crater, Noah Ark National Park. Return to town for walking and eat dinner. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 9 Departure

Transfer to the airport.
